RAF Ripperston  was one of the first GCI stations in the country and was Sister Station to RAF Neatishead, which is now home to the National Radar Museum in Horning, Norfolk. The buildings, which played an important role in the air defense of South Wales in WWII, came as a part of our property when we moved here 19 years ago. As a major part of our home and in serious threat of decay, we had two choices. Either to lose this very special part of Pembrokeshire’s history or attempt to repair it ourselves. So there it was; we embarked on a long term repair and maintenance project, throughout which, we have always been careful to give dedicated attention to retaining its history within our decor.

The following images are very quick shots taken along the way for our own records  they give some indication of what we have achieved so far. It will still be a few months before we are finished but we do hope, ultimately, to have visitors come and stay with us. Maybe on a B&B basis with a 1940’s flavour, or on an Art Based Workshop. Our workshops will be themed around photography, exploring possibilities beyond the camera, taking imagery into art through painting, drawing, printmaking & ceramics. Nothing too technical, nothing too serious, though we do have a darkroom for those real enthusiasts. Creativity through photography, whilst staying in an historical building in one of the most beautiful parts of our Pembrokeshire. And if you are really keen, a chance to display your work in a exclusive art exhibition following your stay.

Nothing is completely finished – but as we use the rooms ourselves on an ongoing basis, in between our intermittent phases of DIY, we have to have them clean and tidy just sometimes – you should definately not see them as they are now. We do have an ‘OPEN MONTH & EXHIBITION’ starting on August 22nd, 2017.
